Aquick look at this years Bruins

Well the 2011 Bruins are a strong resemblance of the team that won the Stanley Cup last year after 39 long years. After a slow 3-7 start they've rediscovered the magic once again and find themselves in 1st place in the Conference. Stellar Goaltending has provided the consistency night in and night out giving a chance to bring home points. Tyler Seguin the 2nd overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft in his 2nd year has surpassed last years totals in what's become a remarkable season with 13 goals and counting. David Kreji has been slow to come around and as a result has a negative +/-. Rich Peverely and Kris Kelly were beautiful pickups and continue to play well in there 2nd year with the big club. Lucic just served a 1 game suspension for a controversial hit on a Montreal player. Now looking at teams around the league and the league office aren't happy with how the Bruins play. It's a physical style and seem's to be the Blueprint to there sucess and for that is looked upon in a negative way. Winning never get's old and these last 2 Bruins teams are the embodiment of past Rock'em Sock'em kinda Bruins teams that play fast and rough. If that's the problem maybe they should put skirts on there players like they do Quarterbacks where there's so many rules not allowing a hit or to be touch. What a shame Hockey has come to this but it's a sign of the times. judging by the ratings and attendance the game is strong so I say let it be. The Winter Classic in Philly this year should be another good rating's and game itself so be sure to check out New Years Day in the city of brotherly Love between Philadelphia Flyers and the N.Y. Rangers. 2 of my least liked teams so I may watch or may not,who really know's. Another deep run into this years playoff's is expected by the Bruins. Will be interesting for this year trade dealine who the Bruins target. Give hockey a watch as there exciting and fast but if you like watching a good hockey team catch the Bruins,you won't be disappointed.

BCS Conversation...My thought's and more

With LSU  winning it's game against Arkansas there more than likely going to win it all. They are a good example of what a GREAT defense can be. Alabama is right there as well.  Stanford is thumping my IRISH so they'll move up in the standings. Bowl games should be fun to watch with exception to LSU vs Alabama again. People want offense and even though those 2 teams have plenty it'll be the defenses that lead the way. I was looking at some of the projections of possible bowl games I see a game that's intriguing. Oregon vs Wisconsin. Personally I want to see where my Irish go as they more than likely will go to a decent bowl. Other thought's though if today's loss for Illinois didn't secure Ron Zook getting fired then I don't know what will. It's hard to get excited about watching Illinois football. Ron Zook was a high profile Coach whom Illinois landed and for the better part of his time there hasn't done anything. Despite what you feel about the Big Ten as a league you have to ask yourself who would you rather play for? Wisconsin,Michigan,Michigan St,Nebraska,Ohio St? Ya see where I'm going with this? As this is not the team I support but can usually tell ya how teams do on any given week. In other news I'd have to agree Urban Meyer would be a great fit for Ohio State but nothings in stone just yet. As for Penn St who know's what's going to transpire there. An unfortunate situation has engulfed that community and although time heals the pain it will never be forgotten. This incident will no doubt cost them recruits they count on to keep them going as a football program but I think they'll fall off a bit because of all this. Was good to see Nebraska join the big 10.

Who is this you ask?

This hear sports fans is Lane Kiffin. It's ok if you don't remember that name after reading this article. He is the Head Coach of USC Football. He's an arregont person who doesn't rationalize well and the same goes for his players. Let's go back in time to get a idea who this guy is and what makes him tick. He's Coached the Oakland Raiders of the NFL for a short time and wasn't succesful. Fast forward where he took a job with the Tennessee Volunteers which is a step down but that is in the very competitive and some would say best conference in America....SEC. He stayed 1 year and didn't even make a bowl. So abruptly he left there on a moment's notice taking the University and A.D. off guard. In listening to the interview I don't remember him apologizing for leaving but more of a Thank You for having the chance to Coach there. So where am I going with this story because so far I haven't told you about his latest demeanor. So keeping in mind where he's at now and adding that his football program is ineligible for bowl games for 2 years because of sanctions from the Previous Coach Pete Carrol who's now a Coach in the NFL. Boy isn't life great. So you'd expect a Coach given these circumstances to keep a low profile until he gets his footing right? Not exactly. I can tell you as a Notre Dame fan there's no love lost with USC but then add this Coach in and you have a powder keg just waiting to go off. During the week of the game and afterwards where USC won 31-17 some less than flattering comments were made from him and some of his players stating that Notre Dame had seemingly given up because they didn't use there 3 time outs in the 2nd half. Oh but it get's better. Another comment had them saying that N.D. is not USC. Ummm no that would be correct USC IS ON PROBATION YOU IDIOT. That Kiffin and members of his football team would stoop so low after a Nationally televised game is classless. The Coach also made a comment leading up the game about that because of the magnitude of the game and all the hype that went into it and that only an independant could pull this off. Guess what Notre Dame is? You guessed it,independant. This saga is not over yet rest assured but chances are when Notre Dame goes to a bowl game this year USC will be watching it @ home and eating crow in the process. Your right were not you USC and damn proud of it. Go Irish!!

Notre Dame football

These are tough times for the Irish but need I say not uncharted waters. In listening to Coach Kelly's post interview conference after the Michigan game it's clear he get's it. He's been doing this like 25 years. The kids need to buy into what's going on and when that happens they'll start winning again. Everything is relevant until this happens. For me it's gotta come back to the Discipline factor. You get off to a good start and build a lead and momentum but it's what happens once the controversy starts. Opposing teams are going to make changes as there suppose to and how you react to that will determine if your successful not in your game plan. Let's see 9 Turnovers in 2 games you clearly should've won. Not only are these mental mistakes but there confidence killers. Those start to play on your teams psyche after awhile. The main players are making plays but that doesn't include the defense. Bob Diaco Defensive Coordinator after having this unit hitting on all cylinders has got to be pulling his hair out. The schedule doesn't get any easier as they play Michigan St next. For a team that was tabbed to make a BCS bowl game throw that thought out the window. Gathering there sanity back and some composure is of utmost importance. I can assure you this problem will get turned around but how long will it take is the question. 

The NFL season is FINALLY here!!

Wow can you believe the NFL season is finally here? I'm excited as we now have Direct TV and I've got multiple fantasy football leagues so the timing couldn't be better. Most of you know my wife and I are HUGE Cowboys fans and the idea of being able to watch every 1 of there games is enticing. Let's hope they do well. But tonight's much anticipated game between the Saints and Super Bowl champs of Green Bay kick off yet another season. I think Green Bay has a very good chance of repeating again this year provide they can stay healthy. Remember they had 19 players injured and yet they outlasted the rest of the field to claim the Lombardi Trophy. As for other teams I look for the Jets to be somewhat better,and my surprise team this year is Detroit with all those weapons they have. Matthew Stafford stays healthy the skies the limit for this team. There defense has been upgraded and with Megatron your always in the game with him catching passes. Consistency will be there biggest test as this is not a team used to winning. As for the black and blue division there in I feel they'll replace the Bears. Jay Cutler is to inconsistent and they have no passing game and the defense is getting older. And with the new kick off rule that hinders just what Devin Hester can do and he's not a normal receiver as he hasn't adjusted to that role yet. Minnesota now has Donovan McNabb which if nothing else is a quick fix until they can get a full time QB in there. Adrian Peterson still provides them with an above average run game but little else. The defense is decent but that alone won't win them but maybe 6 games @ best. This team will finish last in that division and not make the playoffs. Hard to believe last time they made the playoffs Brett Favre was there QB. Scary ha? Enjoy week 1 everyone. Will have my reactions and comments after this week.

Nebraska...Oh what a fit....Big Ten style!!

So Nebraska wants to join the Big Ten ha? Scratch that.... is now a member. This is going to be a great fit and what I have to say next just might leave ya scratching your head. I obviously can't speak for all the sports that the CornHuskers  will bring other than football so let me throw some facts at ya and you decide. Nebraska Football has 5 National Championships 1970,1971,1994,1995,1997. Impressed yet? I'm guessing not. Ok well you have to have an open mind and do some digging into this program to know just how passionate they are about there football. Back in 1997 they shared the National Championship with Michigan. Ok after that there's not much distinction between the Big Ten and Nebraska but I predict the CornHuskers will take the Big 10 by storm year in and year out and wrestle away some titles that would've gone otherwise to Ohio St. practically every year for what 5 straight years? There stadium will be full as if that hasn't happened with the likes of Texas,Oklahoma,Missouri on your schedule year in year out. My prediction is Nebraska goes 9-3 in there Inaugural year in the Big 10. I'm an Irish fan so what do I care right? Can't wait for me some football. Welcome Big Red!! 

Ohio St. debacle

Let's get down to the mess that's been festering for a while and has now opened a can which can never be closed again. This is clearly the players faults and there has to be some responsibility by the guilty parties. Ok Tressel has resigned and Pryor which is the main piece to this puzzle is now moving forward and will not play again citing he's doing what's best for his teammates. Are you kidding me? Since when has he ever done that? Sure he was successful while there winning a couple BCS bowl games. The former players who helped cement there place as cheater's like Clarett and a few other's show that these are not good character guys. The allegations continue to come out against Pryor now receiving benefits in the form of $40,000 I believe tied into a Tattoo parlor. If it's not 1 thing it's another. Make no bones there success against arch rival Michigan is well documented winning the last 9 of 10 times. The success this school has enjoyed over the last 10 years is quite impressive. In closing it's a darn shame a few bad apples have to spoil it for everyone and cost a Coach his job. When is winning not enough? Just ask Pryor and a couple of his so called buddies.

How many more bombshells can fall? Ohio St version.

Wow. Those letters to that word should be much bigger but the word is right on cue. What is going on and how much more dirt will be dug up on thee Ohio St. Football program? As if things couldn't get any worse former players are coming forward and alleging there lack of judgement as well. Now before I go any further realize this kinda stuff goes on at a lot of colleges and yes I'll even say to a degree my Beloved Notre Dame. Now getting back to the story is Ray Small who was a receiver between 2006-2009 and had received 4 rings for what we perceived to be there success on the field. As Lee Corso would say Not so fast my friend. The admission from Small saying everyone was doing it which brings up another question. Do the players not have any more pride than to sell of there Championship rings? I think we both now know the answer to that as Small sold off 2 of his rings to pay for everyday living expenses.But to throw everyone under the bus and say this was a widespread thing going on with all these wrong doing's. Stupidity has to figure in here somewhere wouldn't you think? The NCAA is looking into 50 transactions between Ohio St. and there families and 2 car dealerships. Stay tuned there. Can you say Death Sentence!! How much more has to come out before this happens to a once proud University. If after the dust has settled and Tressel and his A.D. haven't lost there jobs OMG just wait for Pandora's box to be opened across the nation with similar stories covering the Tabloids. Tellin it like it is Ray Lewis

I recently watched a video as you'll have a chance to see in the link I've provided. I didn't think initially what he was saying was the message that needed to get out but after further watching it's exactly the message that needed to get out. This is a highly successful NFL player who hasn't always done things right and there's been controversy from time to time. The way he spends his off time like probably 40-50% of the players helping those less fortunate and donating there time (Which they have plenty of right now) is something to behold. I feel Ray has really grown up and can really tell from his life experiences how things really are. It's hard to believe there may not be an NFL season because of 9 Billion dollars that the league can't figure out how to divvy up. Wouldn't us common people like to have this problem? He talks of crime going up and things getting ugly if there's not a season. To this I say times are tough for everyone because of our economic state but that doesn't mean I'm going on a rampage. Nag,Nag,Nag...Get over it!!

I think the title line is meant for me but let me state my case 1st. As most of you know I now have a night time job so therefore I have plenty of time to eat,(no complaints) and listen to the radio..again no complaints..ahh but not so fast. Have you ever talked to someone about a particular topic and they left you scratching your head and wondering just what they said? This is the case as I listen to the new 93.5,95.3 the New Radio station nightly that has ESPN commentary and a great Host whom I like in Jason Smith. Where I'm perplexed is the range of discussion about the different sports,well actually the 3 major sports. I think you know where I'm going with this don't you? I'm a Huge Hockey fan and Love my Boston Bruins,an original 6 franchise. It's as if Hockey doesn't exist. I've gotta tell ya this year in particular has seen most of the playoff series going 7 games with bone crunching hit's,snipers on the loose for 1 timers and of course dynamic Goaltending. The only thing I can figure is ever since that lockout for the NHL which cost's them the ESPN contract the network has pretty much washed there hands of the whole situation. Now granted I'm not a Golf fan,Soccer fan,Racing fan and so on and to that I say,each to his or her own. My Bruins made history last year for all the wrong reasons last year when they were up 3-0 in the 2nd round of the playoffs against the Flyers and 3-0 in Game 7,,,needless to say all that wasn't just a bad dream..they never recovered and will forever be associated with choking and dare I dare making history. Fast forward a year with exactly the same circumstances and the Bruins would redeem themselves in a big way. They are 1 series away from returning to playing in the Lord Stanley Cup Finals. Tampa Bay is the only thing standing in there way. How about Chicago falling behind Vancouver 3 games to none and coming back to force a game 7 before bowing out? Chicago knocked out Vancouver the last 2 years so payback you might say. Your going to tell me these 2 stories alone aren't worth sharing on the airwaves? Intrigue,fast paced,Action from end to end is what  the NHL is all about. It's a travesty there's not more coverage of this great sport..(Me Speaking obviousely). Try watching sometime and see if you don't think it's entertaining.

Please do the White Sox a favor and FIRE OZZIE GUILLEN

Look let's get down to it. Ozzie for all he was as a player is nothing as a manager but a sideshow and a distraction to his team. He has voiced his displeasure with playing in Arizona because of the Illegal Alien/Immigrant issues. He's always lashing back at other teams players if he even hears something he doesn't like. In losing 17 of the last 21 games and holding down the bottom half of his division change is inevitable. Never thought I'd say but even the Cubbies are playing better than they are. Last I heard there batting a paltry .210 which is simply unacceptable at this level. Oh did I mention they've been the victim of a no hitter here this past week? Players tend to distance themselves from Coaches who have another agenda and although I don't know what his is getting his team to play better is not 1 of them. Whats that? Yeah,yeah he's won a World Series. Seems like years ago but this was the high point in his Coaching while with the Sox. Just do a Youtube search of Ozzie Guillen and I think you'll agree he needs to go so the White Sox can start playing ball in front of there home crowds at The Cell and competing again. 

Commentary about Steelers RB

You know coming out of college (Illinois) Reshard Mendenhall had a bright future ahead of him. Firmly NFL bound the sky was the limit and then it happened. Twitter this and that and everything in between of nothing but pure nonsense relating to 9/11 and Bin Laden which brings me to this. Which one will catch up to him 1st temptation or stupidity? I'm guessing the latter. To merely question the fact that Airplanes can't take down a building much less the twin towers is asinine by any account. And as if in the same sentence talking about how we as people can't possibly relish or express our views in such a way that quite frankly don't agree with his. Conspiracy theory is all I've heard and I for one am tired of hearing about it already. Whats' done is done. Bin Laden is dead and the twin towers and no more (sadly),ok the last part only. An evil man had been rid of this earth who did nothing but thumb his nose @ the US of A and kill innocent people. Wouldn't be surprised if Reshard tweeted next the Holocaust didn't happen. Shhhh stranger things have happened. It never ceases to amaze me loving the sporting world the way I do how some of the dumbest people come from there. Let's formally add Reshard to that list.
